Usher Speaks Out About His Son's Hospitalization Following Swimming Pool Accident

Usher Speaks Out Following Son's Scary Accident

Usher is speaking out for the first time since his son's hospitalization on Monday (Aug. 5).

The singer released a statement on Wednesday thanking the men who rescued his son Usher Raymond V after the 5-year-old nearly drowned while trying to retrieve a toy from a swimming pool drain. When a housekeeper and supervising adult were unable to free him after his arm got stuck, two male employees working inside the Atlanta, Ga., house jumped into the pool and got Usher V loose. The boy was then given CPR before being taken to the hospital.

"I am blessed and fortunate to say that my son Usher V is doing well and is recovering," Usher, 34, said in a statement, according to People. "I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of prayers, love and support for my family's well-being."

"I would like to thank my Aunt Rena as well as the doctors and nurses who are working with us around the clock," he continued. "I would especially like to thank the two men who saved my son's life, Eugene Stachurski and Ben Crews. They are true heroes and I am deeply grateful to them."

Usher V is Usher's eldest son with ex-wife Tameka Raymond. They also have a 4-year-old son, Naviyd Ely.

Tameka took to Twitter this morning (Aug. 8) to share some good news:

Reportedly the 42-year-old has filed for emergency custody after the accident, claiming that Usher does not "properly supervise" their son and that he delegates caregiver responsibilities to others frequently because he isn't home, according to ABC News.

Still Tameka tweeted this message, possibly shooting down rumors:

....And no I haven't gone anywhere or done anything. #Relax

We hope little Usher gets well soon.
