How To Protect Yourself From 'The Silent Wrinkler'

Soaking up sun at the beach sounds like a very good idea to us, especially since we now know how to do it safely. Yet, with all the benefits of absorbing vitamin D naturally, dermatologist Dr. Amy Wechsler believes a lot of people are still in denial about the sun's damaging effects.

"It creates everything from wrinkles to brown spots to extra blood vessels on the face called telangiectasia, and of course, skin cancer," said Dr. Wechsler.

You've probably heard of UVA and UVB rays, but do you know the difference between the two? According to Dr. Wechsler, UVB rays cause an immediate tan or burn, while UVA rays possess a longer wavelength that causes damage over time. She refers to the latter as "the silent wrinkler" because we have no idea we're being exposed to it.

Your best bet to protect yourself from UVA rays? A broad-spectrum sunscreen with zinc oxide and titanium oxide, as these physical blockers work right away and are often sweat-resistant.
