Venice Beach Ferris Wheel: Locals Disagree On The Proposed Attraction (VIDEO)

A Ferris Wheel At Venice Beach?

Venice Beach is about people-watching and observing eclectic artists and street performers. Soon, tourists and residents may be able to do their observing from 200 feet in the air.

Great City Attractions, a company that has built Ferris wheels around the world, is proposing a $1.5 million Ferris wheel at the end of Windward Avenue in Venice Beach, CBS reports.

The ride would feature futuristic glass pods to sit in and would be called the "Great Observation Wheel."

Mark Ryavec, of the Venice Stakeholders Association, told CBS, “It will be attractive for residents and tourists alike. And I think the views will be stunning up there.”

Opinions on the wheel, however, are mixed. David Busch, a local community activist, opposes the new attraction. “Venice Beach is for art… and for people coming down from all classes of society. It’s not for Disneyland. That’s in Anaheim,” he said.

Locals will discuss logistics of the proposed attraction, including concerns about parking and restrooms at a community meeting Monday evening.
