Verizon iPhone Release Is Totally Anti-Climactic

NEW YORK--There were balloons, police barricades, security, and a full staff on hand early this morning at the Verizon Wireless store on Broadway in downtown Manhattan. Absent from the scene: customers.

Verizon iPhone pre-orders, which started February 3rd, sold out in just 17 hours, with subscribers snapping up an estimated 500,000 phones.

But the lines and throngs were conspicuously absent this morning in New York, the first day the Verizon iPhone was available for purchase in stores. On Twitter, there were additional reports of an underwhelming reception. Check out the calm, quiet scene outside the Verizon store in the video below. Are you surprised?
