New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz is peeling back the layers of his life story through a new Showtime film, "I Am A Giant: Victor Cruz." In a trailer, premiering on The Huffington Post, for the upcoming documentary, Cruz is candid on the topic of his late father, who committed suicide in 2007.
“I just have so many things that I wanted to talk to him about. Those dark times fuel me now even more than before," he says.
"I felt like my father was there every step of the way. If I could talk to him right now, I'd look at him and I'd ask him if he was proud of me," adds Cruz.
The documentary, which will air on Showtime on Oct. 30, had been pegged to Cruz's comeback from a torn patellar tendon in his right knee, which he suffered last October in a game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
"I want to prove that I can face an injury, break the mold and be better than I was before," Cruz says in the trailer.
Cruz, however, injured his right calf on his first day of practice back from the knee injury. On Wednesday, Giants coach Tom Coughlin wouldn't rule out Cruz for this Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers, although no timetable has been given for his return. His long-term health is completely up in the air at this point, leaving his comeback story curiously unfinished.
“Will Victor Cruz be the same guy again? Will he be that athlete he once was?" Cruz asks aloud in the trailer.
