A man from Russia is reportedly suing the creator of "Fallout 4," claiming he played the video game for three weeks straight and lost his job and wife as a result.
The 28-year-old from Krasnoyarsk in Siberia, who has not been named, wants $7,000 in compensation from Bethesda Game Studios, per the state news service RT.
In a statement released by his lawyers, the man said he didn't realize how addictive the popular action role-playing game would be, Gizmodo reported.
"If I knew that this game could have become so addictive, I would have become a lot more wary of it," he said. "I would not have bought it, or I would have left it until I was on holiday or until the New Year holidays."
According to the official "Fallout 4" website, the game sees the principal character emerging from a post-apocalyptic Boston bunker in the year 2287, some 210 years after a nuclear war.
The claimant alleged that his addiction to the game led to him being fired for repeatedly skipping work, Yahoo Games reported. He claimed that his wife left him and that he suffered health issues due to lack of sleep as well.
The lawsuit was also filed against the localization firm Softklab, per PC Gamer.
It's the first lawsuit of its kind in Russia, and the man's lawyers said they "wanted to see how far we can go regarding this case."
Bethesda has not commented on the reported legal action. The Huffington Post reached out to the company and will update this story if more information becomes available.
