'Dogs + 'Tails: Eat Hot Dogs, Help City Dogs At Vinoteca

Eat A Hot Dog, Save A City Dog

WASHINGTON -- Here's a summer restaurant promotion to wag your tail about: From June 2 to 9 at Vinoteca Wine Bar, $1 from every hot dog sale will benefit City Dogs Rescue, a D.C.-based nonprofit that rescues adoptable dogs from overcrowded, high-kill shelters.

Three to four million companion animals are euthanized each year in the United States.

'Dogs + 'Tails at Vinoteca aims to find some of these pups permanent homes. The week-long event kicks off Sunday with a neighborhood barbecue on the U Street restaurant's back plaza; try your hand at a friendly game of bocce for charity and for a $10 donation, chow down on happy hour specials all night. On the front patio, City Dogs will sponsor pet adoptions.

Executive chef Lonnie Zoeller's housemade hot dogs at Vinoteca include a D.C.-style half-smoke, a classic frankfurter and the spicy veggie dog. Wash down your dog with the week's special cocktail, Dog Days of Summer, a potent punch of gin, Amaro Montenegro, Dolin Dry Vermouth, fresh lemon juice and rosemary simple syrup.
