Spider silk is stronger than nylon, kevlar and even steel; it can stretch double its length and endure extreme heat and cold. The versatile properties of spider silk are nothing new, but it's most recent unusual use comes via Japan.

Japanese researcher Shigeyoshi Osaki, has begun using the silk to create violin strings. Osaki, a professor of polymer chemistry and spider silk expert, has already created surgical sutures and even bullet proof vests from the material.

The arachnophiles latest endeavor is getting rave reviews in the musical community; with musicians claiming the strings play just as well, if not better than traditional materials.
