Drunk Passenger Causes Hijacking Scare

An intoxicated and unruly passenger on a Virgin Australia flight caused a hijacking scare on Friday, The Associated Press reported.

About an hour before arriving at Denpasar International Airport in Bali, the pilot contacted air traffic controllers and reported a possible hijacking, an Indonesian Air Force spokesman said.

Heru Sudjatmiko, airport manager for Virgin Australia, told Metro TV that a 28-year-old male passenger, later identified by authorities as Matt Christopher from Australia, banged on the cockpit door.

"There was a drunk passenger, intoxicated and aggressively behaved. He was trying to enter the cockpit, banging the door but he did not enter the cockpit," Sudjatmiko said.

The plane's crew seized Christopher and handcuffed him.

After the plane landed, authorities placed Christopher under arrest for creating a disturbance, Reuters reported.

None of the 137 passengers and six crew members were harmed during the incident.
