A Virginia man has been arrested on charges including killing a police officer and injuring two others, The Associated Press reported.
Ronald Williams Hamilton, 32, is suspected of killing his wife and a rookie police officer at his home in Woodbridge, according to NBC News. He faces charges including capital murder of a police officer, assault with a firearm and murder in the first degree, the outlet reported.cont
Hamilton is an Army staff sergeant assigned to the Pentagon, according to reports.
The slain officer, 28-year-old Ashley Guindon, was on her first shift Saturday night, one day after being sworn in to the Prince William County Police Department.
Hamilton and his wife, 29-year-old Crystal Hamilton, allegedly argued and she called 911, Police Chief Stephan Hudson told the AP Sunday. Hamilton allegedly shot and killed her before officers arrived, Hudson said.
When Guindon and two other officers showed up at the house, they were shot, the department told The Huffington Post.
Woodbridge is about 25 miles southwest of Washington, D.C.
“We ask for everyone’s thoughts and prayers as our department deals with this tragic loss,” the department said in statement.
The injured officers, Jesse Hempen and David McKeown, are both being treated at Inova Fairfax Hospital and are expected to survive, reported The Washington Post.
Guindon, Hempen and McKeown responded to a call on the 13000 block of Lashmere Court in Woodbridge around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The three officers were shot while approaching the house, Probus said. All three were taken to the hospital, where Guindon later died of her injuries.
Police vehicles -- more than 100, according to The Associated Press -- could be seen outside the hospital.
On Friday, a picture posted to the department’s Twitter account welcomed Guindon and another officer to the force. “Welcome Officers Steven Kendall & Ashley Guindon who were sworn in today & begin their shifts this weekend. Be safe!”
Guindon received a bachelor’s degree in aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, according to a statement the department released upon her graduation from police basic recruit school in June 2015. She also served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and had relatives in law enforcement, the statement said.
