"They say your body is a canvas, I'm just painted differently."

Our newest self-love hero serves as proof that our bodies truly are works of art.

Ash Soto has vitiligo, a skin condition that causes a loss of pigmentation in patches. She regularly traces her skin and paints her body to create brilliant body art.

Her first project, which she referred to on Instagram as “The Marker Chronicles,” magically transformed her skin into what looks like a map of the world.

Soto started sharing photos of her body back in May 2016. At the time, she explained in a caption that she did it to help inspire “all girls to be comfortable with themselves and their bodies because everyone is beautiful and unique,” adding that she is “finally at a point in my life where I can say I love the skin I’m in.”

“It’s a learning experience each day,” she wrote, “but I’m getting there.”

Since then, she has regularly shared images of herself with marker lines, in body paint or unadorned alongside words of encouragement, inspiration and self-love.

She preaches the importance of being proud of your own skin, and reminds followers that “falling in love with yourself doesn’t make you vain or selfish at all, it makes you indestructible and strong.”

Soto’s message of acceptance clearly resonates with her over 81,000 Instagram followers, who regularly thank her for sharing her images and post their own stories in the comments.

We don’t know if we’re more impressed with her confidence or her artistic ability, but we’re more than inspired by both.
