'Vogue Opera' Is A Celebration Of Art And Ballroom Culture

"[Voguing] is a culture that birthed from a place of oppression, struggle and pain."

A powerful new video is offering an ode to the style, beauty and legacy of voguing.

"Vogue Opera" comes from the group Purple Crush and features prominent members of the Los Angeles Ballroom Community. Isla Cheadle of Purple Crush and House of Chanel wanted to create the nine-minute clip to accentuate the sophisticated nature of the art form. The video, above, also includes Legendary Kevin JZ Prodigy and Legendary Enyce Chanel, commentators for the East and West coast Ballroom scenes, respectively.

Cheadle told The Huffington Post, "[Voguing] is a culture that birthed from a place of oppression, struggle and pain. While it's reaching mainstream exposure, it's of utmost importance that it remains in the hands of those who built it -- the core of Ballroom, its House and family structures, are in place to help keep black and latino queer kids alive in a world that threatens their existence everyday."
