Walmart Announces Early iPad Sale

Sure, you could wait till 8 a.m. local time to buy your iPad at an Apple store, but wouldn't it be better to get it 8 hours earlier?

Twenty-four hour Walmart stores will be selling a limited quantity of 16GB black and white iPads starting at 12:01 a.m. on March 16. (Boy Genius Report says the retailer didn't specify whether it will carry 4G-equipped units on the day of the launch.) The iPad 2 will also be for sale at the discounted price of $399.

There is only one other location where you can pick pick up the new Pad that early: the Best Buy in Union Square, New York. According to a tweet from the big box electronics chain, the iPad will go on sale there at 12:01 a.m. Friday. However, customers will not be allowed to begin lining up until 10 p.m. according to Best Buy.

Where else can you pick up your iPad? According to Macworld, iPads will also be available at Target, RadioShack, select Sam's Club locations and non-24-hour Best Buy and Walmart stores. The WiFi + 4G LTE-equipped models will also be sold at Verizon and AT&T carrier stores, which according to Wired sometimes have shorter lines than Apple stores.

According to an Apple Press release, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland and the UK; along with Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands will also be getting the new iPad tomorrow. Twenty five additional countries will get the new tablet on March 23.
