Want to Find That Special Someone? Find Your Joy

Many people ask me, "How do I find someone to love?" My answer is quite simple: Find what makes you happy, and do it! When you are doing something that brings you joy, you will find that you are surrounded by people who share your interests.

When someone chooses me as their matchmaker, the first thing I do is sit down with them face to face to learn as much about them as I can. One of the first question I ask is, "What are your hobbies?" It amazes me when a client responds, "I don't have any hobbies." If you are single and looking for love, you must get out there and do something that brings you joy. Give this some thought. Would you want to date someone who does not have a hobby that brings them happiness?

If you have read any of my blog posts or my book, Love Made Easy with CharlieTheMatchmaker, you know that I tell everyone that they have to put their "best self" forward to entice others to be interested in them. If you are simply floating through life with no joy, you are not experiencing life to its fullest. Ask single people what they're looking for, and most of them will tell you, "I am looking for someone who is fun-loving."

It is simple. People who do fun activities that they enjoy on a regular basis have more opportunities to meet people. If you are sitting around wondering why you are alone, get out there and do something that you enjoy, and find others who share your interests. It can be as simple as joining a group that does something you enjoy. If you enjoy physical activities, you can join a bowling league, a softball league or a sports center that has a variety of activities, such as rock climbing. If you are interested in theater, find a group that goes to see new shows. If you love art, become a member of that museum you have always wanted to visit. If you want to give back to the community, you can help out a charity in your community. Whatever brings your joy, do it! Once you do, you will find yourself surrounded by people who share your interests and open up your world to the possibility of finding that special someone!

On a personal note, I am taking my own advice. I used to love to sing and perform onstage. To combine my love of song with my love of matchmaking, I created a one-man cabaret show called Dear Charlie and will be gracing the stage of the Laurie Beechman Theatre in February and March. Not only will I be finding my joy, but I will be bringing people together by dishing out some songs and dating advice!

Whatever it is that you like to do, get out there and do it! Find your joy, and put your "best self" forward. You may just be surprised by who you find.
