Eventually, You Will Find Yourself at a Crossroads.
Do I stay in my comfort zone? Or should I take charge of my life and make a new choice?
Comfort zones are easy. New choices take an unbelievable amount of courage.
Friends and family live in the comfort zone and are always willing to tell you why you can't step out and be bold. Making a new choice may require you to strike out on your own.
So if nobody is there to support you, how can you know if it's the right one?
Here's a tool that I picked up from New York Times Bestselling Author, Gabrielle Bernstein. I have used this in my own life as well as with clients.
Whenever you are feeling uncertainty about whether you are taking the right action in life, hit your meditation pillow and think of an image that has some sort of significance to you. Visualize it for two solid minutes. Then simply ask the Universe to show you this image in your daily travels as a sign that you're on the right track.
Yeah, yeah. I know it sounds "woo woo." But you will ALWAYS get an answer.
I used this last year when struggling over whether to start my own business. I knew my soul wanted to transition into coaching full-time, but my ego mind was scared to give up the steady paycheck at my corporate job. So I meditated and asked to be shown an Owl, a symbol of wisdom, if it was the time to make a career transition.
Three hours later, I was scrolling through Facebook, and what should pop up in my newsfeed but a video of two baby owls.
Still skeptical, I meditated again the next day and asked to be shown a dolphin if the universe was really trying to get me to make a move. 20 minutes later, I got in my car and the hosts on the radio were discussing a story about a dolphin.
The Universe is always providing guidance. We just have to ask.
I've used this exercise countless times with clients, and they almost always see the object they choose within 12-36 hours. I've had clients pick butterflies, clovers, a moose, you name it.
The only time this doesn't work? When you ask the wrong question.
One client recently had really been fighting through a block around men. She wanted commitment from a guy she cared deeply for and he just wanted a friend with benefits. Even though she knew this situation was toxic, she struggled to let him go. The sporadic attention from an emotionally unavailable guy still felt better than no attention at all.
She convinced herself that this man was in her life for a reason and if she stuck it out, he would come around. She asked the universe to show her a specific symbol if she was on the right path. After two weeks, she was frustrated when it didn't appear.
During one of our sessions, I asked her if maybe this was a sign that she, in fact, was on the wrong path? Maybe it was time to move on from this guy and release that negative energy?
To her credit, she continued to work on herself and finally put her needs first.
While getting her haircut last week, her hairdresser asked her how things were going with this guy. Finally able to stand in her power, she declared she was over being strung along and was ready to find someone who was serious about her. She said "I don't ever want to see him again!"
Within seconds, the conversation transitioned into body art. The hairdresser was complaining that her husband just got an awful tattoo of an Egyptian eye.
Oh by the way, the symbol that my client had chose as a sign from the Universe?
It was an Egyptian Eye.
It was only when she was able to declare her intention of self-love out loud that the Universe immediately answered her call.
If we want reinforcement that we are making good decisions.... we actually have to make good decisions.
So try it out this week. Have you started on a new path in an area of your life and need reassurance? Meditate. Visualize the image. Ask to see it.
But if you know, deep down, that you have been playing small and holding back from living your best life, then you have to adjust the question. Ask if NOW is the time to take new action of make a new belief.
The Universe is always listening. You will get your answer. And oftentimes, the non-answers can be the most powerful.
