Just how connected are our kids today?

According to Pew Research, close to 100 percent of teenagers aged 12-17 are online, and 80 percent of those kids are on social media sites.

If 12 seems young, consider this: Facebook as a rule requires users to be 13 or older, but Consumer Reports found that about 5.6 million Facebook users are actually under 13 years old. In a survey of kids who go online, fully 44% said they lied about their age so they could access a particular site or sign up for an online account. Another study found that 95 percent of the parents of 10-year-old Facebook users were aware of their child's account, and 78 percent of them helped their child set it up.

How can parents keep up? Well, 60 percent of U.S. parents are secretly checking their teenagers' Facebook accounts, and 77 percent say they've checked what sites the kids have visited.
