So that was a bit of a surprise.
Avoiding the “deplorables” label controversially pasted on them by former Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, Sanders said, “The vast majority of people who support Trump are people who are hurting and they’re angry and they’re looking for answers. I think Trump is the wrong answer.”
Sanders conceded that voters have problems with both Trump and Clinton as candidates, but reminded them to focus on the issues and Clinton’s ability to solve them.
And, of course, he got in a dig or two at the Donald.
“It’s pathetic and it’s laughable,” Sanders said. “Here is a guy who has exploited people throughout much of his business career. Here is a guy who claims how concerned he is about American companies going abroad to manufacture products — a very legitimate concern — and yet, his own clothing manufacturing is done in other countries around the world where the poor workers are being exploited.”
