Water parks in Texas are a great way to beat the oppressive summer heat and humidity. In fact, many residents buy season passes so they can go as often as possible, which is also a great way to get the most bang for your buck. As part of a Huffington Post Travel series on water parks, here is our guide to all the key information visitors need to know about the ones in Texas.
Schlitterbahn
, the most-visited water park in Texas, has been featured on the Travel Channel and is consistently named one of the
in the country. The reason is simple: this family-owned park serves up some serious family-friendly fun.
Sheer Enormity
The best feature of this park is the sheer enormity of it. Schlitterbahn spans over sixty-five acres. Parents visiting Schlitterbahn might want to arrange with older children and teens to meet up at timed intervals; keeping tabs on them is tough when there's so much to explore. There are so many slides, water rides, pools and waves that a second day might be required just to experience them all.
Three Sections
Schlitterbahn has three unique sections, Blastenhoff, Surfenburg and Schlitterbahn West with a convenient tram between each of the three. From boogie boards and hot tubs to the physical challenges over at Hang Ten Harbor, Schlitterbahn will keep your family so busy that they may just fall alseep on the ride home.
Concession Stands
Schlitterbahn has a variety of concession stands offering pizza, sandwiches and ice cream. They also allow families to bring in their own lunch in a cooler. Glass containers are not permitted.
Safety Record
Our research revealed no notable news reports of accidents or safety issues at Schlitterbahn.

Lost Lagoon
Lost Lagoon is a classic addition to a trip to Sea World in San Antonio. The Texas heat can be unbearable in the summer months and Lost Lagoon is every overheated kid's dream park. Lost Lagoon is a great place to take some family time together to unwind, relax and be a kid (regardless of one's age).
Splash Attack
is an all-time family favorite for many. The three-story funhouse combines everything kids love about an outdoor fort with water. Lots of water. Sprays, geysers, spickets, nozzles and spouts squirt every which way as young explorers meander through this interactive structure.
Sea World
If you choose to travel to
, plan on at least two days at Sea World- one for the park itself and one for Lost Lagoon. The experiences are different yet both offer loads of family fun.
Park Favorites
Traditional park favorites like hot dogs, pizza and ice cream are served at Lost Lagoon. Neighboring Sea World also has a variety of casual food options.
