AUGUSTA, Ga. – One is an emotional, risk-taking major champ from the Florida swamps.
One is a social icon, finding his way to the spotlight through daredevil off-the-course activities and bold apparel choices.
"You know, at first I really didn't like him," quipped Fowler, his tongue firmly planted in his cheek.
Their connection began in Fowler's rookie season when the duo were paired at Quail Hollow – and the rest, as they say, is history.
Later that year, they shared a flight to Pebble Beach for an event, and Fowler got to size up Watson.
"You know, when you have to sit with him for four and a half hours on a plane, you learn a lot and figure out if I want to spend more time with this guy or not," Fowler said, inciting quite a bit of laughter.
"It's been fun. We get to spend quite a bit of time together. You know, being around Angie, his wife, and Caleb, it's pretty cool to be able to spend time with Caleb now and him calling me Uncle Rickie. It's special."
Watson and Fowler are infamously half of the Golf Boys as well, with Ben Crane and Hunter Mahan completing the hilarious quartet.
Their first music video, "Golf Boys: Oh Oh Oh" has 6,927,266 views on YouTube, while their follow-up "Golf Boys: 2.Oh" has been watched 4,175,402 times.
Fowler's first thought on doing the hilarious videos?
"I ask why we did them."
Really?
"No, I just sit there and laugh. There's still people that I meet that haven't seen them and sometimes I refer to them and sometimes I try and keep them as far away as possible," said Fowler. "But they are bound to find out about them at some point. So something that's going to be with me forever."
In their second video, the foursome decided to use their new-found YouTube fame to the benefit Charity Water, an organization that concentrates on giving clean water to folks in need. According to the website, the video created $18,923 in donations to date.
"I think it's really cool that we are in a position, the four of us, and obviously all the guys on the PGA Tour, able to be in a position where we can go raise awareness for different charities . . . And being able to do it while having fun and showing people that we are just normal, goofy guys that just happen to be a little bit better at golf than other people."
So is there a Golf Boys 3.0 in the future?
"Yeah, I don't see why not."
Maybe the next one will feature a pair of green jackets.
