LOOK: Fanciful Wedding Cakes at Design Competition

WASHINGTON -- The D.C. chapter of Les Dames D'Escoffier International (LDEI-DC) took to Tysons Galleria over the weekend for a two-day, sugar-filled wedding cake competition featuring three of the area's top pastry chefs.

The cake designs were based on top spring fashion trends. The Swiss Bakery's Laurie Ann Alleman Weber took home the top prize for her five-tiered cake inspired by the high-volume colors and attitude currently rocking the runway.

Other contestants, Marilyn Mueller of Terracocoa and Padua Player of Susan Gage Caterers, played up themes of pale pink and underwater life, respectively.

The judging panel was filled with famous names: "Top Chef" veteran and star of ABC's "The Chew," Carla Hall; chef and owner of Bayou Bakery, David Guas; executive pastry chef and owner of Willow Restaurant, Kate Jansen; Firehook co-founder and "Top Chef: Just Desserts" contestant Heather Chittum Roth; and White House Exectutive Pastry Chef Roland Mesnier.

All money raised from the event went to benefit LDEI-DC's many scholarships, grants, mentoring and farm-to fork education outreach programs.
