Wedding Dress Discount: Bridal Event Helps Brides With Postage Stamps

Most brides pay for their wedding gowns using cash or a credit card.

But at the "Bridal Affair" event in Elk Grove, Calif. on Saturday, brides paid for their dresses with postage stamps instead.

The event, which offered dresses bought directly from manufacturers and bridal shops going out of business, allowed budget-conscious brides to save big bucks as long as they brought in breast cancer research stamps. For every stamp the brides had purchased, a $1 discount was given on the dress up to $100.

According to event’s executive director, Fran Hansen, brides bought dresses at up to 85 percent off the original price. “I always say we’re helping brides recession-proof their wedding,” she told local news station CBS 13.

The event also offered five percent off the price of a dress if brides made a donation to a local charity.

“I hope that I can make a little difference by making a big difference for somebody’s wedding,” said Hansen.
