Americans everywhere seem to be interested in celebrities in distress.

A hefty slice of America spent 2015 keeping up with erstwhile Kardashian in-law Lamar Odom and the daughter of the late Whitney Houston, Bobbi Kristina Brown.

Odom, who was "fighting for his life" after what's believed to be a drug overdose, and Brown, who died at 22 following a long hospitalization, were the top trending searches is all but three of 25 major U.S. cities this year, according to city-by-city data Google released Thursday to The Huffington Post.

Google controlled for popular searches that recur annually, like the flu or "what time is the Super Bowl" and singled out the terms that ranked highly in each city compared to previous years.

“They’re a better indicator at what people are actually searching for in a given year,” said Google spokesman Patrick Lenihan.

The top 2015 searches by city look similar to national data, Lenihan said, noting the prevalence of terms like "Sandra Bland," "Ronda Rousey," "Jurassic World" and "Blood Moon."

Lenihan said Google users also demonstrated their love of hometown sports teams via search teams -- perhaps none more than Chicago, whose top trending search in 2015 was "Chicago Cubs."

"You've got to imagine, the Cubs are getting searched for a lot every year, but they did so well this season that they actually drew more attention this year," Lenihan said.
