Man Breaks It Down Once And For All Why You Shouldn't Ask People 'What Kind Of Asian' They Are

If you ask Alex Dang "what kind of Asian" he is, you're going to want to sit down and buckle up.

Performing in Boston at the National Poetry Slam back in 2013, Dang delivered a powerful slam poem addressing the many stereotypes against Asians. Using a personal narrative tied into the history of racism, Dang methodically destroys what he describes as a systematic way of marginalizing Asians.

"Let me tell you all the things you don't want to know," Dang says. "Like how 'chink' comes from the clanking of metal to railroad as the slaves built train tracks for this country to be connected. Like how the 'zipperhead' down the street is called that because of the way our heads split open when struck with assault weapons."
