What to Expect in Hair for 2016; The Infinite Variety of Bob Makes them Irresistable

Don't expect anything less. When you head to your stylist for a change in 2016, what she's bound to suggest is that never-ending classic, the "bob."

"But the bob isn't new! I want something different," you protest.

True enough, the bob has been around forever, but the bob lends itself to so many distinct cuts and colors that it hardly ever goes out of style and rarely looks routine.

It's not always a rounded, perfectly styled under bob. We are seeing it all, from layered bobs to collarbone-length lobs and, meanwhile, we're still seeing very slick-back straight bobs and A-line bobs and bobs with shattered ends at various lengths.

We got a glance at that variety on the red carpets at the American Music Awards last month in Los Angeles: Gigi Hadid had her hair in a sleek blonde bob, while Demi Lovato wore hers in dark, dark roaring '20s finger waves.

We will be seeing a lot more layered looks and hairstyles that are subtly face-framing to add softness around the face. Bangs, too, are still "a go!" Bangs are fun and also a good way to soften almost any hairstyle.

Just make sure you get with your stylist so she can determine which style of bangs are best for you and where your layers should hit, so that the cut and length are best suited for your face shape and features. Like I always advise, take your phone photos, Instagrams and Pinterest boards to your stylist, then collaborate on cuts and colors to make it work beautifully.

Color will continue with soft, tone-on-tone looks, and blondes will be blended with very subtle shade variations to create depth but still have a lighter overall look. We've seen the blondes hangin' strong long past summer this year. And the pastel colors, lately mid-length to the ends, are still out there, notably worn by Miranda Lambert at the CMA Awards recently with some very soft blending. It will be interesting to see where they go in 2016. And the reds will also remain a hot item this winter and deep into next year.

Overall, hair is becoming a bit shorter with lots of layering that has texture and a lot of movement. I'm also expecting much softer waves. We'll also see a lot from styles that have a symmetrical look to them.

Be open to change! Love the Holidays!
