What's Worth It: The Pierre Hotel, NYC

When I heard about The Pierre's $100 million renovation project, I was skeptical. Would the iconic property be turned into a frilly glam wonder? Wonderfully, this is not the case in the least.

The Pierre Hotel
New York City

When I heard about The Pierre's $100 million renovation project, I was skeptical that the iconic property was going to be turned into a frilly glam wonder (that in reality few people like...)

Wonderfully, this is not the case in the least. Taj Hotels Resorts & Palaces, who own the property, have hired the right talent to create the understated elegance and comfort it has become today.

Service is truly excellent -- as it should be at this price point -- but even so, hats off to the staff and management.

A few notes for you to consider The Pierre on your next NYC stay -- and to surprise your honey for a Valentines Day weekend.

  • Feels "boutique" -- not like a large, impersonal property (There are 189 rooms; 49 of which are suites)
  • The Grand Suites can be configured to be 6 bedrooms which is a unique option in New York -- easy for large families with some nanny/ trainer entourage! Wait till you see the landscaped terraces -- special!
  • The lower floor "petite" gym has all of the basics and a great feel to it -- carefree rather than hardcore. Personal trainers can be hired for you.
  • The hot cocoa and assortment of teas at the lovely Two E Bar & Lounge is the starting point to any winter warmer
  • Le Caprice, the hotel's joined restaurant with 5th Avenue entrance, is as much of a scene (in a good way) and delicious as its famed London outpost of the same name. I personally enjoy having short business meetings at their bar.
  • The central location of the property makes it easy to enjoy NYC on foot. Central Park is steps away, wonderful shopping down 5th Avenue and up Madison Avenue; more top, upscale eateries one could try in a few weeks period! within a square mile.

Bottom line? This New York re-born beauty is... worth it!
