The Edie Falco/"Downton Abbey" love affair is just the best.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the "Nurse Jackie" star said she was crazy about the hit period drama and wants to guest star on it. "I know I’m late on the uptake, but I’ve become a maniacal fan of 'Downton Abbey' -- a cuckoo-crazy fan. Why the hell not? I could be their American cousin or something."

The love goes both ways. Michelle Dockery -- Lady Mary to "Downton Abbey" fans -- told Deadline she has a thing for Falco and would like to meet her at the 2013 Emmy Awards. "I love 'Nurse Jackie,' and I really admire Edie Falco," Dockery said. "So I wouldn't mind an encounter with her at some point this year. I think she’s wonderful."

Falco on "Downton Abbey" needs to happen. She wouldn't be the only American actor to cross the pond and mingle with the Crawleys. Shirley MacLaine has a recurring gig on the Masterpiece series as Martha Levinson, the rich American mother to Cora (Elizabeth McGovern) and Paul Giamatti will make his "Downton Abbey" debut as Cora's brother Harold in the Season 4 finale.

The Emmy Awards air Sunday, Sept. 22 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
