Person In Custody After Attempting To Climb White House Fence: Report

A person is in custody after attempting to climb the White House fence on Friday afternoon, NBC and CNN report.

The White House was placed on lockdown after the incident occurred.

According to NBC, a Secret Service official said the person was carrying two bags, which officers on the scene declared as "suspicious." Police took the bags to be screened.

President Barack Obama had traveled on Friday to give a speech at Michigan State University and sign the farm bill into law.

According to a White House pool report, the man was apprehended by Park Police and Uniformed Division officers before he could get over the fence.

UPDATE -- 3:54 p.m.: CNN's Shannon Travis tweeted the lockdown on the White House had been lifted.
