It's no secret that we love stories of amazing teens here at HuffPost High School. So naturally, we're pretty thrilled about what a fantastic year 2012 has been so far for teenage girls in science, from Samantha Garvey, the homeless 17-year-old who became a finalist in the prestigious Intel Science competition, to the three amazing teen girls who won the Google Science Fair, to Angela Zhang, who devised a potential cure for cancer in her after-school hours.
Adding to the excitement, this week amazing young guys and girls excelling in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) were honored at the second annual White House Science Fair. Over 100 students across 45 states were selected to represent more than 40 different competitions and organizations. The honorees will meet with senior administration officials and leading STEM advocates. As if that wasn't cool enough, over 30 of the student teams will have the opportunity to actually put their projects on display and meet Obama.
