White on White Crime

Racial profiling is an anti-intellectual epidemic that endangers white Americans at the same rate as the minority persons it seeks to oppress, and is as scientifically valuable as the concept of the world being flat.

Not guilty. Perhaps more alarming than the not guilty verdict in the George Zimmerman trial was the defense's argument: George Zimmerman was justified in racially profiling Trayvon Martin and killing him. The last witness called by defense counsel testified that a black man broke and entered into her home at the Retreat at Twin Lakes. The defense proceeded with its logic: Zimmerman assumed that Trayvon Martin was a criminal because he shared the same color skin with a black man that broke into the neighbor's home. Thus, the defense concluded that Zimmerman was justified in lodging a bullet in Trayvon Martin's heart leaving the innocent and unarmed teen dead on the ground. The defense rested its case on an attempt to justify racial profiling, and Trayvon Martin's body will rest for an eternity in an early grave dug by racial intolerance.

Boston Marathon bombing: 3 deaths, 264 injured, 14 amputations. White men. Aurora, Colorado movie theater shooting: 12 dead, 58 injured. White man. Newton school shooting: 20 children dead, 6 adults dead. White man. 3+264+14+12+58+20+6= 377. Dear racial profilers: In the past year while you were busy racially profiling black men and Muslims, white men shot up your movie theaters, bombed your marathons, and walked into your child's school and shot him. Racial profiling is not a social utility, but relies upon the unscientific notion that you can form logical conclusions about others based upon the color of their skin. Does the aforementioned statistical analysis lead racial profilers to a new illogical assumption -- that we should now racially profile white men?

My nephew has blond hair and blue eyes. He wants to be a duck vet when he grows up. For those of you that lack knowledge in the nuances of the veterinarian world, that's a vet that specializes in saving ducks. When he was 3-years-old, he begged me not to make him eat a little piece of broccoli because it was just a baby. I put it in a plastic bag and he carried it around in his Thomas-the-Train backpack for a month. I do not want him or my children to live in a world where people would judge him not by the content of his character, but on the complexion he shares with the Boston Marathon bombers.

Racial profiling is an anti-intellectual epidemic that endangers white Americans at the same rate as the minority persons it seeks to oppress, and is as scientifically valuable as the concept of the world being flat. Racial profiling functions on fear and hatred, the irrational expectation that one can predict a person's behavior based upon their outward appearance. In the same year that Hitler died, a man was born thousands of miles away in Jamaica and worlds apart philosophically. Hitler -- cleanly shaven in a suit -- orchestrated the systemic annihilation of six million Jews and made lampshades out of their skin. The other man -- of a browner hue with hair in locks -- brought the world a message about respect, equality, and the interconnectedness of humankind -- "One Love." Bob Marley, a product of the miscegenation that Hitler lived to kill, taught us that in life there is not a black-side or a white-side, but God's-side.

Pursuant to the Constitution of the United States of America, one cannot interfere with another's guaranteed rights based upon race. Our nation can and should continue to pass laws protecting equality, but society is fundamentally flawed and morally lost when it needs the law to inform the soul that you cannot mistreat another person based upon the color of their skin. Although I respect most laws established by our court system, there is a moral law far above any law established here on Earth. Judge not lest ye be judged.

Out of every Pandora's Box in life there springs hope. Last month I met a 10-year-old girl in Los Angeles who wants to be an attorney and advocate for equal rights, because her cousins are Black and she believes that, "they should be able to go to the store and buy some candy and walk home without being hurt." Right before he was killed in the Boston Marathon Bombing, a little white boy made a poster for a little black boy. Eight-year-old Martin Richard made a poster for Trayvon Martin that said: "No more hurting people. Peace." Our future is sending us a message; we cannot allow another generation of our children to be caught in the cross-fire of racial intolerance.

The bullet that pierced Trayvon's heart, pierced the nation's heart, pierced the world's heart; the interconnected human pulse will continue to bleed until all children are treated with justice and equality. This is dedicated to Trayvon Martin and Martin Richard. I am TrayvonMartinMartinRichard. One World. One Love. One Heart. Peace.
