When he was 8 years old, Xiuhtezcatl, a young Aztec boy, took to the stage and made a passionate plea for the environment. Now 10-years-old and strikingly powerful in his presence, he is one of thousands of youth who are linking up around the world, via IMatter and marching together to protect the environment. This Saturday, there will be over 100 marches on four continents around the world.

Should the children lead?

Using Facebook and Twitter, the leadership of these computer literate, passion driven youth also includes young rapper Jeremy Roske, co-founder of EarthGuardians, and 16-year-old Alec Loorz, founder of Kids vs Global Warming. For the past three years, they have been inspiring their globally-linked generation to lead a cultural revolution to change the way we use and produce energy.

Their message, rooted in hope, calls upon youth of their generation to "Wake UP!" their families, schools, and communities and take action to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels, and advocate for change. Their call to action is being echoed on social media networks around the world.

Environmentally oriented politicians, musicians and celebrities, including Daryl Hannah, Sheryl Lee, Van Jones, Robert Redford, Al Gore, and Ted Turner, are among the first to sense their urgency and extend an alliance to their own networks. They have also had a chance to meet Xiuhtezcatl in person.

Xiuhtezcatl is also a lead plaintiff in a lawsuit that is suing the State of Colorado for polluting the atmosphere and contributing to global warming and climate change. The lawsuit has implications for all 50 states.

This coalition, lead by youthful passion and vision, is a trend worth watching.
