Amanda Knox, the University of Washington student convicted of murdering her roommate while studying abroad in Italy, celebrates her 23rd birthday today -- in the cell of an Italian jail.
Knox, who was sentenced to 26 years in prison for the 2007 murder of 21-year-old Meredith Kercher, will celebrate with an hour-long visit from her mother, Edda Mellas, and younger sister Deanna. Knox is reported to have specifically requested crab cakes, to be prepped on a small camping stove on the floor of her cell, as her birthday meal.
Though Knox maintains her innocence and has vowed to appeal, her story continues to captivate the international public. With its foreign locales and young cast of characters, Knox's case could be the next crime to get the Hollywood treatment. No doubt a bevy of young actresses -- from Lindsay Lohan, known for her own legal troubles, to "Jennifer's Body" star Megan Fox -- could be in the running for the coveted lead.
