Why America's 42 Million Freelancers Need Help

When full-time jobs go away, so does the safety net that helps so many Americans survive dire economic times. The lack of a fail-safe for the nation's 42 million freelance workers, accounting for 30% of the U.S. workforce, has left them vulnerable to financial ruin, says a report released Tuesday by Freelancers Union, a Brooklyn, N.Y.-based advocacy organization.
