Dr. Phil explains why he believes it’s so important for children to have relationships with extended family, such as grandparents.

“I think extended family for children is very important. As a grandparent, I love having our grandchildren over,” Dr. Phil says. “I think it’s important for them to see that somebody loves us besides our parents. We can go with them and be loved and cherished, and then we come home, and that’s great. That helps them go, ‘Well, if we’re safe not with our parents — with our grandparents — then we’ll be safe with our teachers. It’s very important for that circle to grow.”
