Oftentimes, staying in your comfort zone seems like the best choice because it's charmed with familiarity. I, on the other hand, enjoy challenging myself -- seeing just what I am capable of despite boundaries that exist around me.

Growing up in North Carolina and continuing my college education here has been ideal, but in less than four months, I'll be making the move to New York City.

"Why would you want to live in such a busy place?" people immediately ask me. Maybe it's the lifestyle change, or my desire to pursue a career in journalism; regardless, there's something about the city that is electrifying. Primarily, I'm making a career move, but under the surface I'm making the move for myself.

I thrive on the city's on-the-go, fast-paced stage it sets for city goers. I flourish on enhancing myself in a variety of dimensions. My heart and mind are set on working in media and journalism, on making a difference, and on reporting on topics that can help someone, somewhere.

And I want to accomplish all of that in the city that never sleeps. Stepping out of your comfort zone is just the beginning of success and I couldn't imagine a better place to attain that than in New York City.

Here are a few of the reasons I'm choosing the make the move, and you should consider, too.

A melting pot of cultures
There are few places in the world where you can walk a couple of blocks and run into nearly ten different nationalities. Sure, this might be intimidating, especially if you are not accustomed to a variety of cultures, but diversity is a beautiful thing: embrace it. Use the city as an opportunity to get to know those who you wouldn't otherwise. Plus, you're likely to find we all have similarities and our differences may essentially be the foundation of an amazing friendship.

Everything is at your fingertips
From food and shopping to museums and art, the city never sleeps for a reason. It's bursting full of places to go and new experiences to try. City dwellers tend to find something new at every corner and anyone can get a complete change of scenery by taking the subway a few stops out. There's no better place to venture and try new things than in a vibrant metropolitan area.

Networking central, full of opportunities
Regardless of what profession you long to be a part of, I can almost guarantee NYC has it in some capacity. It's the perfect place to network, get to know friends and professionals, and grasp how they've used his or her time in the city to further a career and find a deeper meaning. Each person, whether they are an assistant or executive, came to the city for a reason and has a story to tell. So get out there, ask, and make the most of your conversation.

The city offers a multitude of opportunities you will not find elsewhere. The thought of moving can definitely be overwhelming, but the unique lifestyle will be more than worth it. Step out of your comfort zone and into a new experience -- now is better than ever before. What are you waiting for?
