Why It's Great To Be A Guy During The Holidays

Pinch me! There's cold beer in hand, football's on TV, my feet are up on the coffee table, and the women are in the kitchen preparing a feast. I mean seriously, does it get any better?

Pinch me!

There's cold beer in hand, football's on TV, my feet are up on the coffee table, and the women are in the kitchen preparing a feast.

I mean seriously, does it get any better?

Tradition favors guys during the holidays. Whenever we talk about, 'the good old days' or 'the way it used to be' -- advantage men! Why? Simply put, things were generally more male-centric in times gone by. I'm not saying that's how it should be. Rather, I'm just making an observation. So, when we engage in traditional activities guys generally fare better than the fairer sex.

And nothing says Thanksgiving tradition quite like FOOTBALL. I mean, it's on TV all day long. It's the only weekday during the year when this can be said about the NFL. Now if you're really lucky, you will have some friends/family who will participate in a little touch football. Say, perhaps during halftime?

Benjamin Franklin purportedly proclaimed that "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." Who in their right mind would take issue with one of America's founding fathers? Not me! Beer is another Thanksgiving Day tradition custom made for guys. Historians may tell you that hard cider was the drink of choice back in Ben's day, and that's fine. We can have both!

Of course, let's not forget about the feast. Eating until you're uncomfortable oozes tradition, at least in my family! The football and the beer are distractions to your hunger. So when it's finally time to gather around the table (yes the TV should be turned off!) it can be a feeding frenzy indeed. Please pass the gravy...

Yes, it's good to be a guy during the holidays!

And so, we should all collectively say to women everywhere -- "Thanks-for-giving us a taste of the good old days."

P.S. -- Full disclosure -- I will actually be tending to a turkey on the outdoor grill this Thanksgiving...
