Why the First Thought Is Bullsh*t

My first thought, especially in a sticky situation, can be really negative.

I am not enough. Of course this is happening, because I am not enough.

This is where my head goes sometimes. I have learned that this is not my thought. This is the way society has told all women to feel at all times -- through glossy magazines, the fame seeking, and the illusion of wealth equaling happiness. If women feel a sense of lack, we will go out and buy the next shiny thing that promises happiness! We all know about this stuff.

In the New Thought movement we understand this as "human race consciousness." This comes from an understanding that we are ultimately all One, and inside the Oneness, and we affect each other deeply. Human thought and the conscious mind seeks the least resistance, and so it follows suits unless you use the Love and Law to train yourself away from things like negativity and fear.

For instance, the human race believes in sickness, and so there is sickness. The sickness exists because we are all inundated with commercials about "flu season" and allergies and the things we need to buy to avoid these things. In flashing these images constantly in our minds there is almost no way to escape it seems! However, there is a way.

Don't listen to the first thought!

The first thought may say, "Hmm... I'm feeling a little scratch in my throat... that must be the same cold that so and so had." All we have to do is respond consciously by saying, "I know that I am healthy and whole, and one with all that is. I know that wellness surrounds me, enfolds me and I am healing as I speak this word."

Or back to the original thought I have, "I am not enough. This will never work out." I can answer that little lie by saying, "I am one with God and I know that Spirit has me and this situation in the highest and best. All is working out perfectly. I am at choice and I choose to know that I am right where I need to be."

All thought seeks expression along the lines of least resistance. When we become negative or fearful we attract that kind of thought and condition. We must be sure ourselves; we must be positive; we must not be aggressive, but absolutely sure and poised within. Negative people are always picking up negative conditions; they get into trouble easily. Persons who are positive draw positive things; they are always successful. Few people realize that the law of thought is the great reality; that thoughts produce things.

My first musical, "Breaking the Moon" is opening this weekend and I couldn't be more proud. It is an original piece about teen pressure, depression, drugs, suicide, and all that goes along with living as a troubled teen. I was a troubled teen, so I know a lot about this. The journey of this production has been amazing. You would not believe how many twists and turns, obstacles and leaps that have had to be made to make it all come to fruition.

And each time, say, a person dropped out of the cast, another actor appeared, even more perfect for the role. Or the venue was difficult so I found a bigger better venue. Things like this kept happening, over and over. My partner pointed out to me today that I handled it all with the confidence of a person with FAITH. And that is because I really, truly have faith today.

I have faith today because I practice discernment with my thoughts and feelings. If that first thought is harmful or hurts me, I choose a different one. If I feel in my gut something is off, I listen to that feeling and make a better choice, a choice to feel good and grateful.

In the eye of the storm, all is still. Be still and know. All is well. You are exactly where you need to be! Listen to this song, "Memory of Starshine" that will be featured in Breaking the Moon this weekend. If you are in the Charlotte area, grab a ticket here: BREAKING THE MOON TICKETS. There are still seats available!

Remember, don't mind that first thought! It isn't yours.
