Nadine, 36, says she is traumatized by her lifelong obsession to be thin, and says her years of yo-yo dieting have left her with “post-traumatic diet disorder.”

“Over the years, I’ve been on a nonstop roller coaster of weight loss and weight gain. I’ve lost and gained back over 1,000 pounds,” says Nadine. “Losing weight stresses me out. I’m terrified to gain more weight, I’m terrified to not lose the weight, and then it frustrates me so bad that I want to eat.”

Nadine, who is 5’6” and weighs 220 pounds, says she wants to lose 70 pounds, but, “I’m completely traumatized by all the diets I’ve done and failed in the past.”

7 Reasons Why People Fail to Lose Weight

Fearful that she’ll pass her “craziness” on to her young daughter, she turns to Dr. Phil for help. “I feel like I’m failing as a wife, failing myself because I can’t solve this puzzle,” she shares. “I absolutely feel helpless at this point. I’m totally lost.”

“The reason you’re failing doesn’t have anything to do with diet,” Dr. Phil tells her. “You set a goal and you fail. Why do you think you fail?”

“I think because I self-sabotage, or there’s something in me that can’t stick with it,” she says.

How You May Sabotage Yourself Before You Start To Pursue Your Goals

“You set yourself up to fail every single time,” Dr. Phil says. “Why do you think people do the same thing over and over when they continue to fail?”

“I’ve been doing it for so many years, I guess that’s just all I know how to do,” she says.” I don’t want to give up. I don’t want to lose the battle. I want to keep fighting.”

Could a dark secret be at the root of Nadine’s food addiction? And, will she ever be able to eat without feeling anxiety and guilt? Watch more here.
