William And Brenda Evans, Detroit Couple, Killed Over Winning Lottery Ticket, Daughter Says (VIDEO)

Couple Murdered Over Winning Lotto Ticket, Daughter Says

A Detroit couple allegedly killed in their home Sunday morning may have been murdered over a winning lottery ticket, according to Click On Detroit.

William and Brenda Evans, age 71 and 61, lived on Lennox St. on the city's east side and were reportedly found dead by a family member on Mother's Day morning. According to a police report, the two victims sustained injuries, but the cause of death wasn't immediately apparent.

The couple's daughter, Tierra Evans, told Click On Detroit she believed the murder occurred because her father, who frequently played the lottery, recently had a winning ticket and that others knew of his winnings.

According to WXYZ, William Evans was known as "Dollar Bill" in the neighborhood and played the Daily 3 and Daily 4 lottery games. Players of the respective games can win up to $500 and $5,000.

But police seem to believe drugs were involved in the murders, after an investigation uncovered previous narcotic transactions at the home. Family members deny drug involvement.

"This is not a drug house ... we have stayed at this house for 20 years," Tierra Evans told WXYZ.

The family also believes someone with knowledge of the lottery ticket was involved in the murders because other valuables were not stolen, and the break-in occurred through a secret door at the back of the house, according to Click On Detroit.

Tragedy in all forms has hit other lottery winners in the past. Lottery winner Abraham Shakespeare's body was found under five feet of concrete in 2010 after he won a $17 million lump sum from the Florida lottery in 2006. The woman charged with his murder reportedly sought him out after he announced his winnings.
