Willow Smith Style Evolution: Sugar And Spice Child Star Turned Free-Spirited Tween (PHOTOS)

Why We Wish Our Moms Would Let Us Dress Up Like Willow

When I was a little girl, one of my favorite things to do was hide inside my mother's walk-in closet and slip into her sequin tops, bold-shouldered blazers and kitten heels. Yet, my fashion fantasy only lasted as long as mom was busy grading papers or frying chicken. In a matter of minutes, I'd be found and given that look which translated into: "You better get back to your room and clothes." So, you can see why I envy Willow Smith and her edgy style that's practically nurtured by her mama, Jada Pinkett-Smith.

The youngest star of the über-talented Smith family definitely had her cutesy moments on the red carpet wearing fluffy frocks and ruffled rompers. However, once she released her catchy dance record "Whip My Hair" in 2010, Willow's vocals and outfits were turning heads. From lace-up Converse shoe-pants to one-sleeved leather jackets, she's given fellow Roc Nation artists Rihanna and Rita Ora stiff competition. And that includes taking risks with her constantly-changing coiff.

As Willow celebrates her 12th birthday on Wednesday (October 31st), we're taking a look back at the youngster's style over the years. Vote on all her looks in the slideshow below.

Meanwhile, head over to The Daily Beast to find out how fashions It girls are getting younger.
