He’s been known to dodge questions about Demi Lovato, but 31-year-old actor Wilmer Valderrama is finally opening up about his former relationship with the 19-year-old "Skyscraper" singer in an interview with Perez Hilton.
In a new interview posted on Perez’s site, the Cuban blogger asks the bashful "That 70’s Show" star point blank about Demi.
“There were photos of you making out in public—you can’t deny that,” Hilton says in the video. "You're right," Wilmer says. "I can't take those back."
Perez then asked Wilmer about the big age difference between him and Demi. She’s 19, he’s 31.
“What is a 31-year-old doing dating a 19-year-old?” asked Perez.
Wilmer explains that despite their age difference, he and Demi had a special relationship that often included leaning on each other for support during tough times.
“We were really just best friends and to be honest I couldn’t be more proud of her,” says the actor. “She’s a great human being. I was very proud to be there for her when she needed me and she was there for me a number of times too."
And even though they're no longer together, the half-Colombian, half-Venezuelan actor says he and Demi are still on good terms. "Oh yeah, for sure," he says. "She's definitely very special to me."
Valderrama, who currently plays Detective Efrem Vega on NBC’s new hit show "Awake," and recently guest starred on NBC's irreverent comedy "Are You There, Chelsea" (opposite his former 70's show co-star Laura Prepon), also tells Perez he has plans to start a music career.
“Music is something that has really been part of my life,” says Valderrama, who has been asking his famous singer friends - like Ricky Martin and Enrique Iglesias - for advice on jumpstarting his music career.
“I’ve been singing and dancing since I was six years old, but acting just evolved faster. I’m excited to visit that arena.”
