As hobbits go, the contestant dressed as one on "Wipeout" (Thu., 9 p.m. ET on ABC) was far too tall, and he was wearing shoes. In "The Lord of the Rings," hobbits are known for their natural stealth, but not so much for their zeal of adventure, despite the ones featured in the stories.
This contestant must have had the fire for adventure, but even striking the Tim Tebow pose during the course wasn't enough to lead him to triumph. He called out with cries of "for the Shire!" and even, "This is for Gandalf!" But alas, the end result for this hobbit was an all too expected journey into the water.
He was just one example of the bizarre characters that the casting directors for this competition show are starting to find. It's almost turning into a reality version of "Let's Make a Deal," only these costumed characters aren't in a studio audience hoping to get picked. Who knows where they're finding them!
