Lifetime has picked up the "Witches of East End," starring Julia Ormond ("Mad Men") and Jenna Dewan-Tatum ("American Horror Story: Asylum").

"We've been thrilled about 'Witches of East End' and its powerful premise since the moment we bought the property," Rob Sharenow, executive vice president of programming at Lifetime said in a statement. "This is one of the most exciting ensemble casts we've seen and the whole show is fresh, original and just right for Lifetime."

Lifetime has ordered 10 episodes of "Witches of East End," which also stars Rachel Boston and Mädchen Amick. The network plans to launch the series this year.

"Witches of East End" is based on Melissa de la Cruz's best-selling novel of the same name. The story centers on Joanna Beauchamp (Ormond) and her two adult daughters Freya (Dewan-Tatum) and Ingrid (Boston), who are both unknowingly their family's next generation of witches. They lead average lives in Long Island's secluded seaside town of East Haven, but when Freya gets engaged, a series of events force Joanna to tell her daughters the truth. Amick will play Joanna's mischievous witch sister Wendy. The pilot was directed by Mark Waters of "Mean Girls' fame.

"So excited. Freya is the most fun to play!" Dewan tweeted.

Lifetime has been bulking up its scripted slate as of late, adding "The Client List" and the upcoming "Devious Maids" (from Eva Longoria) to its successful "Army Wives," which enters its seventh season in May.

"Witches of East End" is set to premiere in 2013.
