Nellie Wright, a never-married-never-dated British woman, credits her longevity to the fact that she prefers Jelly Babies to men. Wright told the Yorkshire Post, “I’ve stayed away from men all my life." She added, “That’s my secret, no men. And living off Jelly Babies -- I eat a packet a day.”
She told those gathered for her 109th birthday party that she thought it was "marvelous" that she's lived this long, adding “I had a wonderful party and I’ve had a wonderful life.” She also credited her longevity to being a life-long hiker and walker.
According to the director of the retirement home where she lives, Wright has a very sharp mind and is full of stories that she likes to share. The director confirmed that Wright has never married nor had a boyfriend.
Sweetening the birthday Jelly Babies party was this: a message from the Queen.
And as for the avoiding men advice, we can only think there may be something to it. Last year, a 109-year-old Scottish woman named Jessie Gallan also credited avoiding men as being the key to her longevity. Although Gallan died about three months after making that proclamation, her words still live on the Internet: "[Men] are just more trouble than they’re worth.”
