Woman Allegedly Drank Six Vodkas Before Crashing Into Bicyclist

A 30-year-old Joliet woman faces a charge of aggravated DUI after a Near West Side car crash that left a bicyclist in critical condition.

As the Chicago Sun-Times reports, Sheila Kane allegedly consumed six vodka drinks over the course of two hours at Westend bar before she got behind the wheel of her Mercury Sable and crashed into a bicyclist in the 2000 block of West Madison Thursday, prosecutors said at her Sunday bond hearing.

Kane's blood alcohol content -- .201 -- was more than twice the legal limit of .08, according to the Sun-Times. Though Kane only admitted to police that she had three vodka drinks before the crash, witnesses say they saw her drink twice that amount -- six drinks.

Kane fractured her vertebra in the crash and remained hospitalized at Stroger Hospital. The bicyclist, Frederick Johnson, remained on a ventilator in critical condition after sustaining bleeding in his brain as of Sunday, according to the Chicago Tribune.
