Liz Parkinson Free Dives With Sharks: No Tank, No Cage, No Problem

No Breathing Tank, No Cage, No Problem

Given the alarming news of yet another shark attack off the shores of North Carolina, this video might seem surprising. Unnerving even. And, yes, beautiful.

In a sneak peek of an upcoming episode of Travel Channel web series "The Way I See It," free diver Liz Parkinson frolics with Caribbean reef sharks without a breathing apparatus or any kind of protection. While the sharks are not among the most dangerous, they have been known to attack humans on occasion.

The vision of Parkinson sitting on an underwater wreck as if it were a throne while the sharks swerve around her might stay with you for the entire summer.

"There's that level of respect," she says in the clip. "We're in their environment. We're guests in their home and they've given us that privilege to be there. It's so cool being able to get so close to an animal that's feared as something so horrific and so horrible when really they're not. They're just big fish."
