Drug Suspect Hides Loaded Gun In Vagina

"That was an extremely dangerous situation for everyone."

A suspect in a Texas drug bust also faces a charge of unlawful carry after she admitted to concealing a loaded handgun in her vagina.

Waco Police stopped driver Gabriel Garcia, 30, around 11 p.m. Monday for a traffic violation near an elementary school.

When officers searched his car, they found 2.7 grams of methamphetamine under the driver's seat, and an additional 29.5 grams in the purse of his passenger, 31-year-old Ashley Cecilia Castaneda. Weighing scales were also found in her purse.

As officers transported Castaneda to jail, she told the cops she had a handgun hidden in her vagina. A cavity search performed on the suspect by a female officer revealed a .22-caliber Smith & Wesson semiautomatic handgun exactly where Castaneda said it would be.

Police said the gun was loaded, with a round chambered.

Waco Police stressed that the incident, while unusual, could have easily turned quite serious.

"That was an extremely dangerous situation for everyone involved," Waco Police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton told the Waco Tribune-Herald. "Depending on a number of factors, that gun could have gone off by body movements or compression of the trigger."

Suspects have hidden firearms in their vaginas before. Last year, a corrections officer found a loaded .22-caliber handgun in 19-year-old Dallas Archer's vagina after she, too, was arrested in a traffic stop. It turned out the gun was stolen.

Castaneda and Garcia both face charges of possession of methamphetamine in a drug-free zone. They remained in the McLennan County Jail on Tuesday afternoon in lieu of $31,000 and $10,000 bonds, respectively.
