Classified Ad Exchange Reminds Us That Strangers Can Kind Of Be The Best

One woman who was trying to help her mom was met with a show of compassion from a total stranger.

Cara Duggan of Belfast, Northern Ireland, tried to buy a Nutribullet blender earlier this month so her mother, Kim, who has stage 4 oesophageal cancer, could get high-density nutrition more easily, Buzzfeed News reported. Duggan told the outlet that because she couldn't afford a new one, she reached out to a seller through U.K. classifieds site Gumtree about a used one.

When Duggan received a response from the seller, however, it was not at all what she was expecting.

"I'm sorry to hear that your mum [has] cancer. Just send me your address. I will post it [to] you and you don't have to pay for it," the seller, whose identity has not been revealed, wrote in a message.

Duggan replied thanking the seller but saying that she was willing to pay. However, the benevolent man had other ideas. After Duggan gave him her address, he sent her a message saying that he'd ordered a Nutribullet for her mom.

Duggan was so shocked by the gesture that she asked him to clarify.

"I'm confused! Did you buy a new one?!" she wrote.

"I bought a new one and it's paid for," the man replied. "You just need to collect it."

Duggan, who told The Huffington Post in an email she was so overcome by the man's kindness that she cried when picking up the item, shared the heartwarming exchange on Facebook last week where the post has since gone viral with more than 6,700 shares. She said that the man's actions have had a positive effect on her family.

Duggan said that the man's actions have had a positive effect on her family.

"It's had a huge impact on our life, more than the man could ever have known!" she told HuffPost. "So many people have messaged me saying they are inspired to do kind things for others now, so I'm hoping that people will continue to pay it forward."
