Nine-year-old Lili Winkelman really loves the wood frog -- and thanks to her, New Yorkers might be hearing a lot more about this particular animal.
Winkelman and her fourth-grade class from Skaneateles, New York, sent letters to Gov. Andrew Cuomo making the case for why the wood frog should become New York's official state amphibian. The students got one step closer to victory last week when state senators voted to approve the measure. The bill will now move to the State Assembly.
Winkelman joined HuffPost Live's Alyona Minkovski on June 13 to share her excitement and discuss some of the coolest things about the wood frog, like its ability to "freeze in the winter and reanimate in the spring." The 9-year-old frog enthusiast also mentioned what this process has taught her about how laws are made.
