How Fainting On Her Company's Trading Floor Changed This Woman's Life

It was December 2008, and Erica Dhawan, the founder and CEO of global innovation firm Cotential and co-author of the fourthcoming book "Get Big Things Done" was on her company's trading floor when she suddenly fainted.

According to Dhawan, the cause of the "shocking" incident was severe workplace burnout.

"My energy was just lost," she told HuffPost Live's Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani in a Monday interview. "I wasn't tapping into the intuition, the empathy, the creativity that I had, and I had lost energy."

The experiences served as a "calling moment to wake up," she explained.

"I was back on the trading floor one day after," she recalled, "[but fainting] taught me a lot about how we need to take care of our bodies and our health. Most importantly, I think what I've witnessed since that period of time ... is that we need to continue to answer the question of work smarter, not harder."
