On Wednesday afternoon, Major League Baseball announced the three United States host cities for the 2013 World Baseball Classic. And lo and behold, San Francisco nabbed the top spot.
AT&T Park will play host to the tournament semi-finals and championship rounds next March.

"We believe that AT&T Park will be the perfect venue to showcase the best baseball players in the world as they represent their countries and compete in this one-of-a-kind tournament," Giants president and CEO Larry Baer told SF Appeal.
The 2013 tournament will include 28 teams and begins with qualifying games for certain squads starting this September.
The U.S. team hasn't been assembled yet, and won't be until just before the 2013 MLB spring training season. But Yankees legend Joe Torre has already been selected as team manager.
This is only the third World Baseball Classic. Japan won both the previous Classics in 2006 and 2009, held in San Diego and Los Angeles.
This year, however, Japan has threatened not to participate since its demand for a larger share of the revenue has not been met, according to the Sacramento Bee.
